IN RESPONSE TO ALL THAT IS HAPPENING IN THE WORLD AROUND US, WE'VE TAKEN THIS AMAZING EVENT ONLINE! WE KNOW THAT MANY STUDENTS HAVE BEEN FINANCIALLY AFFECTED BY THE IMPACT OF THIS PANDEMIC. PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING TO PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR TALENTED YOUNG SHAKESPEAREAN ARTISTS.
The mission of JSF is to provide valuable educational experiences for young actors through the preparation and performance of Shakespearean speeches and scenes. The JSF experience is intended to provide young actors with opportunities to perform, to receive constructive feedback from qualified judges and to participate in workshops from accomplished guest artists to further their understanding and appreciation of Shakespeare’s works.
Performers will choose from pre-selected monologues (below). Students may upload one monologue performance video. Monologues should be memorized and include blocking. Performers will wear all black. No costumes or props are allowed. One chair may be used in recording. Performers will record monologue and submit one take unedited. No special effects shall be added to video.
Successful performers will stay true to the heart of these amazing pieces. We're keeping it simple with no costumes or props so that actors can focus on ACTING!
Students will enjoy getting to work ONLINE with professional Shakespeare actors in the workshop portion of the festival. All students that submit a monologue will receive a zoom code for workshops.
